Coventry Godcakes
Having chosen my home county of Warwickshire as the first of my 92 county rides I have been doing some research on the county and the places I will be passing through. As part of my grand cycling tour of the British Isles it seems only right that I try some traditional food and drink in each county, you know the sort of thing Cheddar cheese in Somerset, Arbroath smokies in Angus. Well I have to report that my early research in Warwickshire has been disappointing to say the least currently I have managed to unearth a recipe for the impressively named Coventry Godcakes, the not so exciting sounding Warwickshire Scones and an intriguing sounding mediaeval drink (alcoholic of course) of Plum Jercum, none of which I hold out much hope of tasting on my jaunt around the Warwickshire countryside, so if anybody out there has any ideas for a traditional Warwickshire delicacy I’d love to know, unfortunately I will not be accepting Chicken Balti as a traditional Warwickshire food!
