Catching Up - Surrey

So I’m sat on the Belfast – Birkenhead ferry for the next 8 hours, with my 7-in-7 challenge behind me and thought it time I caught up to date with this blog so I have some memory of the nine counties that have been completed since I last posted!

County # 32 – Surrey

I really mustn’t leave it this long before writing these blogs – I cannot remember a thing about Surrey!

Chertsey Bridge

Early coffee stop in the woods at the top of Combe Lane climb – a popular MTB location by the looks.

Box Hill ticked off my bucket list – it’s not actually a hard climb but is on the best stretch of tarmac in Surrey and was made famous in the 2012 Olympic road race. Aptly named Zig Zag Lane Simon Warren rates it 3/10 and I think that’s fair.

Later on in the ride I tackled Leith Hill the highest point in the South East at 250m with a maximum gradient of 16% which warrants a 6/10 but is still not too harsh on the legs but definitely a tougher test than it’s more famous neighbour.

Always have to stop at a windmill and the church back at the finish in Chertsey. This was very much a training ride for my 7-in-7 attempt and I recall feeling a bit underwhelmed in Surrey as a whole. I must go back and check the county out as a proper tourist!
